Banners.

Finished Designing the banners to have hanging outside the showroom, again keeping with the design direction i settled with, minimal designs with high impact, i wish i could have screen printed a lot of the things ive designed for this project so i could get white prints on the colourd stock that would definitely create a much greater impact for the project as a whole, just my flyers to print and photograph now and i should be finished.

Photoshopped posters.

Finished the photoshop job with the posters, again really pleased with the out come, i feel as a set these work great together can't wait to see the final range put together now, shouldnt be too long.

Final Promo Posters.

Finished the fedrigoni posters to the best of my ability i feel, really happy witt he designs and feel they promote both issey miyake and fedrigoni really well, need to photoshop them into action and i should be finished with them, i also want to print them just to see how the design would look in real life, sometimes on screen things can be deceiving.

Folded Poster.

Taking a different approach for the poster designs, using folds to promote the paper behind, this way it creates a nice aesthetic and also showcases the paper, I am liking these designs much more than the last, i feel they fit in well with the fashion industry and Issey Miayke's designs.

In order to create this i would need very lightweight coloured and white paper ans duplex them, i would love to have completed this brief with all the necessary tools and stocks, but for now i can just mock up the designs.

Promotional Posters.

Experimenting with some poster design and thinking of ways to include swatches and material the viewers can take away in order to gain awareness of the paper, these are just initial ideas and i will continue to develop further ideas more appropriate to the event.

The 132  5 represents Issey Miyake's range of clothing, the 3rd poster is a representation of the paper being sliced through the middle with the corners folding out to showcase the paper underneath.

132 5.

Exploring the shapes of vectors made based on the designs from 132 5, the vectors have turned out really nice, i will be using these as logo's and throughout the poster / invitation designs.
I experimented with patterns using the vectors, these also turned out really nice, i will continue to explore these images throughout posters and invitation designs.

Publication no. 1

Mocking up another furthered publication design, really liking experimenting with different page folds and cuts, simple but effective techniques to give high impact for the Fedrigoni paper, not sure about colours yet only began to think about layout at the minute, i will further this mock up later in the week but i definitely think this one is promising.

Invitation mock.

Experimenting with a few different mock ups for invitations, trying to combine more than one piece of paper for the information using folds and die cuts, the first one i produce is quite interesting something I'll continue to develop further, the second versions are more using a light weight poster to wrap the invitation inside, this could be a nice way of promoting both lightweight paper for the poster and heavy weight paper for the invitation.

Mock ups.

Now we know for sure we are running with the Issey Miyake collaboration i decided to mock up a few different designs for the publication, the designs are looking really nice and I'm looking forward to producing the final publication, there are a few designs i like, out of all these i will develop one further and continue to mock up inside pages etc.

Mail Out / Runway Design.

Only a sketch or two, but i quite like the ideas, for the mail out i was thinking we could include a window box in the outer envelope and inside have two documents of different colourd stock folded in a way that create a composition in the window of the envelope.

As for the Runway design i felt it a good idea to include large scale origami models of Issey Miyake's designs in order to show case the paper well, and also include a rolled out piece of paper down the runway itself .

132 5.

Looking at Issey Miyake's designs at thinking of ways to incorporate his work into paper based aesthetics which the reader can also take away, we would like to include this into the publication if we can perfect it, I'm not sure how good it could look i will have to mock it up in a publication soon.

Poster Designs.

Furthering my posters designs and adding a little more detail to favored ones from previous design sheet, also a few invitations designs really starting to like the progression so far and I'm loving using paper and it's vast potential for design for poster and publications etc, but still not completely happy with any of these designs.

Interior design.

Thinking about ideas for the detail inside the fashion show, i want to create a means delivering swatches of the paper to the guests in an interactive sense, i was thinking along the lines of a poster containing a hundred or so small swatches, or a wall full of swatches slotted into a huge piece of paper, these designs definitely need furthering but i am happy with the way this project is going so far.

4D posters.

Whilst using paper, i want to exploit its potential as much as possible in order to raise awareness, by using die cuts,  folds, binds and print finishes, i have wanted to experiment with 4 Dimensional posters for a while and i think i have found the perfect opportunity, i'd like to create a series of 4 posters delivering information about the event with the poster unfolding through the 4 stages.

Here are some drawn up designs for them.

Sketches.

A few initial sketches for the publication design and some poster designs, quite liking all of them at the moment, i will continue to develop them with more detail and add colour once i move onto A2 sheets, I'm loving working on a paper based brief, i prefer hands on design using simple paper craft and print processes to produce clean and crisp deliverables, i cant wait to get stuck into this project properly.

Colour scheme.

Thinking about colour schemes for our YCN project and i wanted to use colours matching that of Issey Miyake's designs, so using the eye drop tool in illustrator put together a simple colour palette taking 3 colours from each garment, i have yet to explore the spring summer collection but i'm sure that will have more to offer, we will only really be using color in designs on one or two things, i would like to keep the main focus on the paper by simply using black print to give a high impact.

Pinwheel.2

Experimenting further into the origami side of his designs, again re-creating similar work to his own but much less complex.
This could be a interesting way to showcase two colours/style of paper and could easily be large installations within the interior of the fashion show, something we definitely want to consider.

Pinwheel.

Having a play around with creating similar designs to Issey Miyakes dresses using simple origami techniques, i would love to be able to re-create the actual designs but they are far too complex and need to be created using computer technology.

These are quite a good representation of the designs but unsure how i can use them from here, i may incorporate some better made ones into poster designs or invitations etc.

Book marks & Name cards printed.

Finally got around to printing the book marks and name cards for the event, looking really nice and in keeping with the aesthetic of the rest of the project, it's all coming together nicely now, just need to photograph the project as a whole and finish the boards off.

Concept Boards.

Tuesday 20 March 2012

Design Direction.

After a fair bit of research and exploring different options for executing this project, i decided to start developing design ideas for a proposed publication for Issey Miyake, through researching his designs i couldn't have found a better collaboration for this brief, he explores all kinds of origami techniques and brought around a completely new concept involving computer assisted origami for folding his clothes, also looking further into his other projects i found various other designs that i could easily relate into my publication and designs.

Here are a few designs developing, exploring the potential of Fedrigoni paper.

Also began experimenting with showcasing their paper through posters, i'm thinking of developing a 4d poster exploring time as a dimension, i would like to create a poster unfolding through a series of 4 posters.

Boards.

Yet again creating concept boards to put our ideas across and let people know the sort of design direction were taking, were our inspiration is coming from, who our audience is, and the context in which the work will be in.

Open publication - Free publishing - More boards

This also shows initial concepts, at the moment our concept aren't particularly strong, they have a good base for ideas to come but i feel we need to research much more and begin finding exactly what we need to deliver.

Crit. 2

After showing our boards to the group, we were given feedback by our peers, general feedback to see if we have all areas covered properly, and to also question our concepts, throw any more ideas around and give us some more to consider in terms of deliverables and concepts.

Problem and Solution.

Putting together a simple sheet explaining the problem we are faced with and solutions we may put forward, this is a chance for us to present our knowledge on how the brief should look in a graphic design perspective, after we presented our work to the group they would then crit us on how well it is done, informing us of anything we may have missed.

At the minute we don't have much design direction but we will began to throw some ideas around to see where we stand in terms of style, I'm sure we will both be on a pretty similar level for design ideas, now we just need to crack on with idea generation.

3D.

3D.

'A bike flying gracefully'.

My reponse to the 2d - 3d - 2d, i cut a bike out of two different coloured stock to create an outline of a bike, i then added wings due to my drawing, i took the picture from below the bike in order to catch the sun beside it, i feel this gives a better representation of a flying bike.
